Thousands of cyclists from around the world came together for this year's Ride Like King event, riding nearly 800,000km collectively to honor the legacy of Giant Group founder King Liu. The strong participation level powered the campaign's effort to meet its biggest goal yet: donating 927 Buffalo Bicycles through World Bicycle Relief.
Ride Like King is an event organized by Giant Group—parent company of Giant, Liv, Momentum and CADEX—in collaboration with World Bicycle Relief and Zwift. This year the event carried profound new meaning following the passing of King Liu (1934–2026) in February. Thousands rode in King's memory, reflecting a collective commitment to carry on his belief that cycling has the power to change the world for the better.
For the past 18 years, Ride Like King has been an annual event to honor King, who at age 73 rediscovered his own passion for cycling when he completed a 15-day, 927km ride around Taiwan. From that moment forward, it was King's mission to promote his vision for a healthier, happier, more sustainable future through cycling.
This year's weeklong event ran May 11-18 with a pledge to donate one Buffalo Bicycle through World Bicycle Relief for every 500km ridden collectively. The goal was 927 bikes, a number honoring the legendary 927km ride around Taiwan that inspired the movement. Reaching that goal would make it the most bikes donated in Ride Like King history.
Riders delivered. Together they logged enough kilometers to clear the threshold needed to fund all 927 Buffalo Bicycles. These durable, easy-to-maintain bikes are built to handle heavy loads, long distances, and rugged terrain. They are manufactured by Giant Group and assembled by local workers in the regions served by World Bicycle Relief.
More than 8,000 riders participated in 116 Zwift rides, and thousands more joined in-person rides organized by Giant Group, its retail partners, and brand ambassadors around the world. The global online community spanned continents, with Europe making up nearly half of all Zwift participants, followed by North America and Asia.
Grassroots fundraising teams added to the momentum. Mexico's Grupo Giant Sur México logged the most distance of any team through the World Bicycle Relief hub, while strong local teams from Hong Kong, Germany, and Costa Rica rallied their communities to contribute. Retail and club teams from the Netherlands, Japan, and Poland rounded out the most active hubs worldwide. And riders and ambassadors from around the world shared their experiences by posting photos and stories on Giant and Live social media channels.
“King Liu showed us the positive impact that cycling can have on the world,” said Giant Global Marketing Director An Le. “Seeing our global community of over 20,000 staffers, retail partners, ambassadors, and riders come together this year, in King's memory, was deeply moving. We are grateful to every rider who took part, and to our partners at World Bicycle Relief and Zwift for helping us honor his legacy in such a meaningful way.”
Looking ahead, the “Ride The Legacy. Ride Like King” campaign will continue throughout this year, including a weekly RLK18 Zwift ride starting July 3 and running through 2026. Riders are invited to stay connected with this community for ongoing events and inspiration.
