Giant Group founder Mr. Chin-Piao Liu (King) will receive the “Special Lifetime Achievement Award” as part of the 2022 United Nations World Bicycle Day. Mr. Liu was notified of the award, which recognizes his contributions to global cycling, by United Nations World Bicycle Day founder Dr. Leszek Sibilski.
An award ceremony was scheduled to take place at the United Nations in New York, but due to the severe pandemic conditions the United Nations will instead ship a trophy to Mr. Liu.
Mr. Liu has been in the bicycle industry for nearly 50 years. In addition to founding Giant Group, he also has made tremendous contributions to Taiwan's bicycle industry. He took the lead in setting industry standards many years ago and by pioneering the design and manufacturing of high-quality bicycles, Mr. Liu enabled Taiwan to become a world leader in the bicycle industry.
Mr. Liu has also spared no effort in promoting cycling culture. In addition to assisting the government in building Cycling Route No.1 and the YouBike public bike system, he participated in many bicycle events and cycling activities at home and abroad. Mr. Liu redefined the role of bikes and made cycling a way of life. He is delighted to receive this honor and will continue to promote cycling culture as a positive influence for human civilization and making the earth a more beautiful place.
World Bicycle Day was established in 2018 by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution, allowing the world to celebrate the bicycle's invention. The founder, Dr. Leszek Sibilski said: “The main purpose of our World Bicycle Day is to eradicate cycling illiteracy, which currently accounts for 50% of the world. In addition, we need to empower cycling leaders and organizations at all levels of global society to promote the cycling environment. The United Nations hopes that our global community will meet our efforts with open arms. Bikes are no longer just a means of transportation but a partner nurturing human evolution. Our ultimate goal is to create a truly clean and pollution-free environment for future generations.”
