On June 2, the eve of World Bicycle Day, Giant Group invited 33 bicycle industry leaders to join a kick-off meeting for the Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability (BAS) to be held later this year. The goal of the BAS is to create a coalition for the industry to interact, share ideas, and develop new ESG (environment, social and governance) initiatives to help the bicycle industry move toward more sustainable production practices.

With the intensification of global climate change and the sharp rise in climate risks, global natural disaster losses in 2020 reached NT$6 trillion, and significant disaster losses have become the norm. Recent reports from climate scientists indicate that we now have less than a decade to make the necessary changes to prevent disastrous, irreversible climate change. In response to this crisis, governments around the world have proposed various initiatives, and ESG has become an issue that businesses and all human beings must face seriously.

Regarding sustainable development, the energy-saving, low-carbon characteristics of bicycles themselves are bound to become an inevitable choice for consumers to commute and exercise with in the future. The high-end bicycle industry based in Taiwan has an important role in setting future trends. So in order to continue to play a key role in ESG issues, Bonnie Tu, chairperson of Giant Group, and Young Liu, the chief executive officer, took the initiative to invite influential leaders from the bicycle industry to discuss the possibility of ESG alliances.

A preliminary meeting was held in Taichung, the base of Taiwan's bicycle community on June 3, the eve of World Bicycle Day. During this meeting, the Chinese and English names of "Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability" were officially announced. The purpose and functions of the alliance were also initially discussed, and the BAS scheduled its official kick-off meeting in late October 2022. In addition to Giant Group, the list of participating bicycle industries includes:
