The Ministry of Economic Affairs hosted the 2025 Energy Conservation Recognition Ceremony today (December 15). Giant Group Taiwan Manufacturing was honored with the Silver Award in the Energy Conservation Benchmark Awards for the second consecutive year, remaining the only company in the bicycle industry to receive this distinction and setting a new benchmark for sustainable manufacturing.

The Energy Conservation Benchmark Awards recognize enterprises with outstanding energy-saving performance, emphasizing best practices, knowledge sharing, and driving industry-wide adoption of energy efficiency. The awards are categorized into six groups based on industry characteristics, energy consumption, and carbon emissions, further divided into production and non-production sectors.

Over the past three years, Giant Group Taiwan Manufacturing has implemented 42 energy-saving measures, including waste heat and cooling recovery, on-site solar power generation, and equipment energy conversion. These initiatives have collectively reduced carbon emissions by approximately 3,700 metric tons, enabling the company to stand out among numerous competitors in Group B and reaffirm its commitment to green manufacturing.

Key Energy Conservation Measures:

1. Waste Heat Recovery from Steam Boilers

Installed a heat exchange circulation system to recover waste hot water from six boilers and redirect it to the soft water tank, raising its temperature and reducing natural gas consumption for heating—significantly improving energy efficiency.

2. Energy Conversion for Carbon Fiber Rim Molding

Replaced electric mold heating systems with a centralized natural-gas-fired boiler supplying thermal energy. This transition saves approximately 1.1 million kWh of electricity annually, effectively reducing carbon emissions and showcasing manufacturing process optimization.

3. Thermal Oil Boiler Efficiency Enhancement

An oxygen analyzer was installed on the chimney to enable continuous monitoring and automatic air–fuel ratio adjustment. Variable frequency drives were added to the combustion air blowers for segmented airflow control, and waste heat was recovered and redirected to the combustion air system. These upgrades significantly reduced the natural gas required for temperature elevation and noticeably improved overall energy efficiency.

2024 Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction Achievements

Energy Savings: Equivalent to 404 kiloliters of oil

Cost Savings: NT$17.41 million

Carbon Reduction: 2,089 metric tons of CO2e

Electricity Savings: 4.06 million kWh

In recent years, Giant Group has adopted “Cycling for a Better Future” as its ESG strategy, focusing on three key aspects: Innovating a Clean Future, Transforming for Circularity, and Mobilizing for DEI. Looking ahead, the Group will continue collaborating with industry partners to build a green supply chain and advance environmental protection and sustainable development.
